Georgia woman faces drug charges

A woman in Rome is facing a felony charge after police say they found drugs in her possession. The Georgia woman is a minor, aged 17, and faces drug charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, as well as misdemeanor possession of a drug-related object. If convicted, she could spend time in juvenile hall or possibly even jail, given the felony charge.

According to police, the woman was out on bond for a separate charge when police found her with a used meth pipe in her home. It is unclear what prompted their search of her residence, as very few details about this case have been publicly released. She was arrested on Oct. 17 and was taken to a county jail.

She is currently being held in advance of an unannounced trial date. She is being held on $3,500 bond. When she faces the accusations against her in court, she will be represented by an experienced defense attorney.

Drug charges are taken very seriously in Georgia, especially those classed as a felony. This woman, like everyone else, is entitled to a fair trial, and prosecutors are not supposed to hold prior offenses against her. However, considering she was out on bond for an existing charge when she was arrested this time, that could influence the severity of the charges against her. It will be important for her defense team to carefully review the police records of her arrest to determine if the search of her home was lawful, and if police acted in accordance with her rights during the arrest process.
