DUI charges filed against multiple motorists in Georgia

The Columbus Police Department conducted a month-long crackdown on suspected drunk drivers throughout December, resulting in multiple arrests. Georgia authorities confirmed the traffic detail ran four days a week throughout the month, ending on New Year's Eve. It will be important for any of these drivers who wish to contest the DUI charges filed against them to seek out experienced defense representation ahead of a court date.

Officers from the Patrol Division, Motor Squad and Bike Patrol worked in tandem over the course of the month to detain drivers suspected of operating their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, as well as those deemed to be driving in an unsafe manner. The detail saw 1,123 citations filed for everything from unsafe lane changes to outstanding warrants and DUI charges. A total of 119 people were arrested, including 24 for drug charges and 65 for DUI.

The operation was intended to curb traffic fatalities during the holiday season. As of January, state police recorded 20 traffic deaths for the season, though none of these fatalities occurred in Columbus. Court dates for those arrested for DUI will occur well into the new year.

Georgia residents understand how serious DUI charges can be. Those found guilty may face criminal censure, including fines and/or jail time, and many could also lose their licenses. This is why it is so important for effective defense representation to come into play once the charges are formalized. Accused individuals can partner with defense teams that can carefully review evidence in order to build strong cases defending against these serious charges.
